After your site goes live

Overview

Your site is live. This article walks through what most artists do next: fleshing out the portfolio, making the design feel like yours, getting the link in front of people, and starting to grow an audience. Pick the steps that matter most to you; nothing here is required.

Add more artworks

A portfolio of three or four works is enough to feel real, but a fuller portfolio makes a stronger first impression. Aim for a dozen or so over time: your strongest work, with a mix that shows the range of what you do.

To add more, go to Artwork and click Add Artwork. Each new artwork shows up on your portfolio page right away.

If you have a backlog of images on your phone, the Add Artwork wizard works fine on mobile: you can build the portfolio out from your pocket between studio sessions.

Customise your design

The starter design looks polished, but you'll want it to feel like yours. Go to Designs to:

  • Start a fresh design from a different starter. Each starter comes with its own layout, colours, and fonts. Try a few. You can switch back any time.
  • Adjust the colours in the Studio's Colours tab to fit the mood of your work.
  • Try a different font for headings or body text in the Typography tab.

You can change your design as often as you like. Nothing about your content depends on it: your artwork and pages stay exactly the same.

Share your site

Your site is at a real address right now. Get the link in front of people who'd be glad to see it:

  • Copy the link from your dashboard and paste it into messages, social posts, or your email signature.
  • Add it to your social profiles. Instagram, Behance, and others all have a website field: drop your link in.
  • Put it on a business card or postcard for in-person events, openings, and studio visits.

You can share the same link with a friend, a gallery, or a collector: they all see the same site.

Connect a custom domain (pro and group sites)

If you'd rather have your own address, like yourname.com, and you're on a pro or group site, you can connect a custom domain from Settings > Domain. We'll walk you through it. This works whether you bought the domain through us or somewhere else.

If you're on a basic account, your address stays as it is for now. You can switch to pro later if you want a custom domain: your work and your link history come with you.

Start a mailing list

Even a small mailing list is worth having. People who give you their email are signalling that they want to hear from you: that's the start of an audience.

Go to Mailing List to set yours up. Visitors can subscribe from your site, and you can send them a note when you have new work, an opening, or news worth sharing. Keep it occasional and personal; that's what most artists' subscribers want.

What's next

When you're ready to think about getting found by search engines and being discovered by new visitors, look up the SEO and Discoverability article for what helps people find your site through search. The Making your website live article goes deeper on visibility settings and what visitors actually see.
