Overview
Every time you save changes on ArtSites, a revision is created. Revisions are immutable snapshots of your page at the moment you saved. This gives you a complete history and the ability to restore any previous version.
How Revisions Work
- Each Save action creates a new revision
- Revisions are immutable: they cannot be edited or deleted
- You can view the history of all revisions for any page
- You can restore any previous revision to make it the current version
Viewing Revision History
- Open the page in the editor
- Click Revisions or History in the page settings panel
- Browse the list of revisions, each showing a timestamp and author
- Click a revision to preview what the page looked like at that point
Restoring a Previous Revision
- Open the revision history
- Find the revision you want to restore
- Click Restore
- The page reverts to that revision's content
- A new revision is created recording the restore action
Restoring doesn't delete the revisions that came after. You can always go forward again.
Drafts vs Revisions
These are separate concepts:
- Drafts: Temporary, overwriteable autosaves. Your safety net while editing. Not visible in revision history.
- Revisions: Permanent snapshots created only when you explicitly Save. Visible in revision history. Cannot be overwritten.
Tips
- Save frequently to create meaningful revision points
- Revisions are your undo safety net: don't hesitate to experiment, knowing you can always revert
- The revision list shows timestamps, making it easy to find when a specific change was made
- Restoring a revision is non-destructive: it creates a new revision rather than rewriting history
