Overview
ArtSites uses an overlay-based live editor. Instead of a separate admin interface, you edit your website directly on top of the live page. This lets you see exactly how your changes will look to visitors while you make them.
Entering Edit Mode
- Log in to your ArtSites account
- Navigate to any page on your website
- Click the Edit toggle in the editor toolbar
- The page enters edit mode: editable areas show outlines and tap targets
How It Works
The editor operates as an overlay on your live website:
- Your actual site is visible underneath: you see real content, real styling, real layout
- Editable areas are highlighted with subtle outlines
- Click any editable area to open its editing panel
- Panels slide in from the side with the editing controls for that element
This approach means there's no separate "preview" to check: you're always looking at the real thing.
Editor Panels
When you click an editable element, a panel opens with relevant controls:
- Section panels: Edit content, change section variant, add/remove sections
- Page settings: Title, URL path, SEO, and visibility
- Menu panel: Manage menu items and ordering
The live editor handles your content: sections, artwork, pages, and menus. Your design (layout, colours, and fonts) is edited in the Studio. Click the header, footer, or sidebar and choose Edit design to jump straight there.
Saving Changes
- Changes are auto-saved as drafts while you edit: you won't lose work
- Click Publish to publish your changes and create a revision
- Click Discard to throw away unsaved changes and revert to the last saved version
Tips
- The editor toolbar stays visible at all times while in edit mode
- Clicking outside a panel closes it without losing your edits (they're still in the draft)
- You can navigate between pages while in edit mode to edit different parts of your website
- To see your website exactly as visitors see it, turn off edit mode
