Overview
Search engine optimization (SEO) helps people find your portfolio through search engines like Google. ArtSites provides built-in SEO tools so your artwork and pages are discoverable without any technical knowledge.
SEO Settings Per Page
Each page has SEO fields you can configure:
- SEO Title: The title shown in search engine results. Defaults to your page title if not set. Keep it under 60 characters.
- SEO Description: A short summary shown below the title in search results. Write it as a single compelling sentence. Keep it under 160 characters.
- Noindex: When enabled, tells search engines not to include this page in their results. Useful for private or draft-like pages.
Artwork SEO
Your artwork is automatically SEO-friendly:
- Each artwork gets its own URL based on its title
- Artwork titles, descriptions, and tags are included in the page metadata
- Image alt text (from the media library) helps search engines understand your images
Best Practices
- Write unique SEO descriptions for your most important pages (Home, About, Gallery)
- Use descriptive page titles that include relevant keywords (e.g., "Abstract Oil Paintings" rather than "Page 1")
- Add alt text to all images: This helps with both accessibility and image search results
- Use artwork tags: Tags help search engines understand and categorize your content
- Keep your website structure clear: A logical page hierarchy helps search engines crawl your website
What ArtSites Handles Automatically
- Clean, readable URLs based on your page and artwork titles
- Proper HTML structure with heading hierarchy
- Mobile-friendly responsive design (a Google ranking factor)
- Fast page load times through optimized image delivery

Tips
- Focus SEO efforts on your home page and gallery pages: these are most likely to appear in search results
- Don't stuff keywords unnaturally into titles or descriptions; write for humans first
- Adding new content regularly (blog posts, new artwork) signals freshness to search engines
- Be patient; it can take weeks or months for search engines to fully index a new website
