Overview

Publishing on ArtSites is page-by-page. Each page, artwork, and collection (blog posts and events too) has its own visibility status, giving you control over exactly what visitors can see.

Content Visibility States

Every item has one of three statuses. Think of them as a ladder, from most visible to least: Public, Unlisted, Hidden.

Pages

• Public: Visible to all visitors and included in the menu
• Unlisted: Reachable by anyone with the link, but not shown in the menu or listings, and search engines are asked to leave it out
• Hidden: Off your public pages. Only people who edit this website can see it. Its address doesn't work for anyone else, not even with the link

Artwork

• Public: Shown in collections and galleries
• Unlisted: Not shown in galleries, but reachable by anyone with a direct link
• Hidden: Off your public pages entirely. Only visible to you in the dashboard

Collections

• Public: Shown on the gallery index and in the menu
• Unlisted: Reachable by direct link but not listed anywhere on your site
• Hidden: Off your public pages entirely, visible only to you

Publishing Workflow

1. Create your content (pages, artwork, collections). New items start out Hidden, so only you can see them while you build
2. Preview your website to check how everything looks
3. When satisfied, change the status of each item to Public
4. Your content is immediately visible to visitors

Preview Mode

Before publishing, use the preview feature to see your website as visitors will:

1. Click the Preview button in the editor
2. Your website opens in a new tab showing the public view
3. Review all pages, menu, and artwork presentation
4. Return to the dashboard to make any final adjustments

Tips

• You can take content off your public pages at any time by changing its status back to Hidden
• Unlisted is useful for sharing a specific URL with someone before the page is public: a work-in-progress, a client-only gallery, a page you want to send a link to without advertising it
• Build your entire website while everything is Hidden, then switch it all to Public at once for a polished launch
• The preview reflects your current saved state, including any changes you haven't published yet
