Overview

Your website's menu helps visitors find their way around. When your site is set up, we create a starter menu for you, linking to your main pages so there is something in place from day one. After that, the menu is entirely in your hands: it does not update itself.

Your Starter Menu

The menu we create for you when your site is set up typically links to:

• Your home page
• The gallery index page (linking to your collections)
• Any other pages created at setup (About, Contact, etc.)

This gives you a working menu with nothing to configure. From here on, though, it is yours to manage. If you add a new page or collection later, it does not appear in the menu on its own. You add it yourself using the steps below. This is true whether you are managing a group site or an individual artist's site: neither one updates its menu automatically.

Managing Your Menu

To open the menu editor:

1. Go to Menus in the admin dashboard.
2. Add, remove, or reorder items as described below.

Adding, Removing, and Reordering Items

You have full control over every item in your menu:

• Add an item: Click Add Menu Item, then choose a page, collection, or artist page to link to, or enter an external URL. You can give it a custom label too.
• Remove an item: Click Delete next to any menu item.
• Reorder items: Drag menu items into the order you want.

Changes save automatically and appear on the website immediately.

External URL Links

You can add links to external websites in your menu. This is useful for linking to social media profiles, partner organisations, or external exhibition pages.

1. Click Add Menu Item.
2. Set the type to External URL.
3. Enter the URL and a display label.
4. Click Save Item.

If you want an external link to open in a new browser tab, check Open in new tab when you add or edit it. This is off by default, so visitors stay on your site unless you turn it on.

Menu Labels and Visibility

You can customise how each menu item appears:

• Label override: Change the display text for any menu item without renaming the underlying page or collection.
• Visibility: Hide specific menu items without deleting them. This only affects the menu. Whether the page or collection itself is still reachable at its own address depends on its own visibility status: Public and Unlisted items stay reachable, Hidden items don't.

These options are available by clicking Edit next to each menu item.
