Overview

Artist-owned collections belong to the individual artist, not to your group website. They are portable: if an artist leaves your group, their collections go with them.

How Artist Collections Differ from Website-Owned Collections

Viewing Artist Collections

To see a particular artist's collections:

1. Go to Artists in the admin dashboard.
2. Click on the artist's name.
3. Find the Collections section on their profile.

You see all collections that artist has created, along with the artwork in each one.

Admin Controls for Artist Collections

As an admin, you can manage artist collections to maintain the website's presentation:

• Reorder collections: Drag collections into the display order you prefer for the group website.
• Reorder artwork within a collection: Open the collection and drag artwork thumbnails into the desired order.
• Delete a collection: Remove a collection from the group website. This does not delete the artist's artwork.

Artists are notified when an admin modifies their collections.

Collection Strategy

There are three common approaches to collections on a group website:

• Auto-per-artist: Each artist maintains their own collections. The website displays them grouped by artist. Best for collectives where individual identity matters.
• Manual (website-owned only): Admins create themed collections and pull artwork from across the membership. Best for curated exhibitions and galleries.
• Hybrid: Use website-owned collections for featured exhibitions and let artists maintain their own collections for their full body of work. This gives you editorial control while letting artists organise their contributions.

Choose the approach that fits your group's character. You can adjust your strategy at any time as the group evolves.
